Weber Shandwick Launches Powell Tate in China

Weber Shandwick recently extended its offering in China with the launch of Powell Tate | Weber Shandwick, one of the world's leading strategic communications and public affairs firms.

Ning Shao, a veteran of strategic business development and public affairs will head up Powell Tate | Weber Shandwick in China. Shao has counseled more than one hundred international firms about conducting business in China over the last 20 years, including management of the China operations for the State of Maryland, USA. More recently, he led Weber Shandwick's team on the global communication campaign supporting Shanghai's successful bid for the World Expo 2010. Shao is supported by a growing team of public affairs professionals in Beijing and Shanghai.

Shanghai World Expo Appoints IPG to Develop Marketing Master Plan

A global Interpublic team, led by Powell Tate | Weber Shandwick was appointed in May by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination to develop the Marketing Development Master Plan for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo. The team will be working on the strategic master plan that covers sponsorship, licensing, event management, visitor management and leasing plans for the World Expo 2010. A contract for the project was signed at Shanghai City Hall at a ceremony attended by the Honorable Zhou Yupeng, Shanghai Vice Mayor and Chairman of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, and Interpublic’s Co-Chairman, David Bell.

The city of Shanghai won the right to hold the 2010 World Expo following an international bidding process in late 2002. The Expo aims to attract some 200 countries and international organizations as exhibitors, and as much as 70 million visitors from both China and overseas – a record for a World Expo. The Expo site in central Shanghai, at 5.28 square kilometers (2.04 square miles), will be the largest site in the 150 year history of international expositions.

Overall, Weber Shandwick had 20 finalist client and account teams represented at the Sabres, and were awarded three Silver Awards and one Bronze Sabre Award on the night.
